My Diwali OOTD – A Sari With A Story

So yesterday was Diwali and I was all dolled up like thousands of women around India. This Diwali was extra special because I chose to wear a sari that has a special place in my heart. When I was a kid, my mom had a stunning peacock blue silk sari with shiny silver embroidery which I loved so much that I coaxed her to wear it on every special occasion. When I was shopping for my wedding trousseau, I spotted the exact color combination in this marvelous georgette number, and as soon as I set my eyes on it, I knew that I had to buy it to have my very own version of my mom’s sari.

Luckily, even though I purchased this sari without trying it on, it drapes like a dream because of the light georgette material and the fabric is so easy to wear throughout the day. This is definitely the most comfortable sari that I own and the most beautiful too. I first wore this sari at a puja at my in-law’s place that was one of the rituals once I had entered their house as a new bride, which made this sari even more special for me and something that I will always cherish no matter how worn out it becomes.

This Diwali, I paired it with some huge silver chandbalis (which I love) and kept the rest of my jewelry fairly simple because I did not want to look too overdressed even though it was a festive occasion. Since I had to sport this look from the day till the night, I went with a silver-blue eyeshadow on the lids which matches the sari without being too over the top and kept the rest of my face matte and neutral. I also tied up my hair in a low bun to make the earrings more prominent.

So this was my look for Diwali and I was super pleased with this whole look, if I may say so myself, and can’t wait to wear this beloved sari yet again because I can’t seem to get enough of it!

What did you wear this Diwali? Also, do you have a piece of clothing that you have a sentimental bond with? Let me know in the comments below!

SkinYoga Marigold Foot Soak | Review

I have recently been obsessed with foot soaks because nothing beats soaking your feet in warm, fragrant water when you wish to unwind after a long day. One of the foot soaks that I have been using lately is the SkinYoga Marigold Foot Soak, which is a combination of marigold extracts, sea salt, and coconut oil.

SkinYoga Marigold Foot Soak | Review

This foot soak is more of a moisturizing foot soak than a detanning or exfoliating one. It comes in the form of a vibrant yellow crumbly powder which contains bits of marigold petals and solid coconut oil. Upon mixing with warm water, the oil turns into a liquid and the petals remain floating in the water, creating a hydrating and luxurious looking soak.

SkinYoga Marigold Foot Soak | Review

My feet feel completely relaxed and moisturized after dipping them in this foot soak for around 10-15 minutes. Like I said, this product is not very exfoliating but the salt and the warm water do help to get rid of some of the dead skin, revealing softer feet. Overall, this is a nice product for pampering your feet but the price of INR 1550 for 200gms of product seems a little steep to me. However, one sachet shown in the picture is of 22gms and gives me 2-3 uses when used judiciously, so it is not too expensive if you do the math. If you like hydrating foot soaks and love colorful bath products then you must give this one a shot!

Mitti Se Wild Essence Face Wash | Review

Mitti Se is an Indian brand that has recently received a lot of love from beauty bloggers, particularly on Instagram. The brand creates all natural products from ingredients that have been used in traditional Indian skincare for centuries. Somehow, I never got around to trying out the brand because I had way too much skincare to test out already but when I saw a sample size of the Mitti Se Wild Essence Face Wash on Smytten, I grabbed it. Ever since I started using this product, I have literally been kicking myself for not trying it out earlier because it is so good! So let us look at what this product claims to do in greater detail.

Mitti Se Wild Essence Face Wash | Review

This product is an all-natural powder based facewash which you need to mix with water to apply to the face and it can be used as a face pack as well. What got me really excited about this face wash is the fact that it contains orange peel, lemon peel, and the essential oil of orange. I have recently been hearing such great things about the anti-pigmentation and anti-oxidizing benefits of Vitamin C that I have been trying to gradually incorporate it into my regimen and this product seemed like a great way to do the same. It also contains almond powder which acts as a mild scrub and a source of Vitamin E. Other ingredients included black and red gram flour and fuller’s earth (Multani mitti), which form an essential part of any homemade Indian facemask and have anti-tanning properties. This is combined with extracts of rose, neem, and turmeric that prevent acne and have anti-bacterial properties. Due to its mild exfoliating properties and the presence of anti-bacterial ingredients, this product does live up to its claims of being an anti-acne and anti-suntan face wash.

Mitti Se Wild Essence Face Wash | Review

I personally prefer using this product as a face mask because then it gives even better results. I am usually not a fan of “high-maintenance” products that need to be made into a paste, as opposed to those that can be used directly out of the jar, but in fact, I quite enjoyed making this paste because the powder dissolves really well in the water and forms a smooth paste quite easily. Since I had purchased only a sample pack, I made the paste in bulk and stored it in the fridge. Less than 10gms of the product gave me more than 5 uses which is very impressive. I massage this paste onto my skin to gently exfoliate my face and then let it dry for a good 10 minutes before washing it off. This mask sucks out all the oil from my face and brings a natural glow to my skin. What I love a lot about the product is the zesty scent of oranges that truly wakes me up in the mornings and makes me feel like I am using something pure on my face.

Mitti Se Wild Essence Face Wash | Review

If you are someone with oily and acne prone skin then you must use this product as a face pack and if you have normal to dry skin then sticking to it as a face wash would be better. With regular use, it does eliminate dead cells to get rid of a tan and also dries up any pimples to reveal clearer skin. Overall, I do not see any cons to the product and the price of INR 220 for 40gms is pretty reasonable considering the quality and the small quantity of product required per use. You can buy this product on Amazon and can also order a sample from Smytten if you are a member. If you are looking for some last minute skin detox before Diwali for that festive glow then this product will definitely be your knight in shining armour!

OGX Morocco Argan Oil Hair Conditioner | Review

My hair care is such a mish-mash of products that it often tends to confuse people. The reason for this is that I have combination hair that is oily at the roots and can be extremely dry at the ends. This is why I usually use a volumizing shampoo combined with a nourishing conditioner so that both the problems get addressed. I have currently been using the OGX Morocco Argan Oil Conditioner and will be reviewing it for you guys today.

OGX Morocco Argan Oil Hair Conditioner | Review

OGX hair products usually never disappoint me and this conditioner is no exception. It contains the goodness of Argan oil that penetrates the hair and leaves them incredibly soft and smooth. However, the best thing about the conditioner is that unlike most argan oil based hair masks and conditioners, this product does not weigh my hair down at all. My hair feels glossy, but not greasy, and healthier whenever I use this conditioner. One thing I always make sure is that I only apply it to the lower halves of my hair so that the scalp remains oil free.

OGX Morocco Argan Oil Hair Conditioner | Review

If you are someone with extremely dry hair then using this conditioner in conjunction with the shampoo from the same range will work very well for you. But if you have combination hair like mine then pair it with a shampoo meant for oily hair for optimal results.

OGX Morocco Argan Oil Hair Conditioner | Review

Priced at INR 725 for a massive 385ml bottle, this beautifully packaged conditioner is a mid-range product that is a good alternative if you do not want to spend a fortune on higher-end products. Also, OGX has a vast range of alternatives for different hair types, so even if you do not have dry hair, you can still find something from the brand that you love. So do check out their collection and let me know how it works for you.

Kama Ayurveda Foot Scrub | Review

I have always felt that Kama Ayurveda products are a bit too expensive, but the product I will talk about today is one of the more reasonably priced products from the range. The Kama Ayurveda Foot Scrub is priced at INR 550 for a 50gm tube, which quite surprised me because I had expected that it would cost around INR 1000. Still, I did not want to buy the full-sized product on a whim and therefore purchased a sample from Smytten instead. This 8 gm sample provided me a good 4-5 uses, which means that the 50gm tube will last you really long. Here is how the product performed on my sunburnt feet after my recent vacation.

Kama Ayurveda Foot Scrub | Review

True to the reputation of the brand, this foot scrub contains a great set of ingredients. It has apricot shell particles to scrub the dead skin off the feet, chamomile for soothing dry and damaged skin and tea tree extracts to cool the skin and to calm down any irritation or redness. It also contains Basil extracts that are supposed to alleviate any aches or pains and the extracts of musk and sandalwood to provide a pleasant scent to the feet. All these ingredients are combined to form a deep orange gel in which you can see the ground apricot shell scrub particles.

Upon massaging on the skin, the gel soon turns into a white cream that further gets absorbed into the skin within a few more minutes. The brand recommends to massage the product on the feet for around 5 minutes, and on doing so, the cream gets almost completely absorbed by the skin and only the scrub particles remain on the surface. Therefore this foot scrub not only helps in removing dead skin with the gritty exfoliating action of the apricot shell but also hydrates the feet at the same time. I also feel a slight cooling sensation while rubbing in the product and it has a mild musky scent that most people would enjoy.

Kama Ayurveda Foot Scrub | Review

Overall, this product performs really well at making the feet smooth and moisturized and at removing any dullness from the feet. Personally, I would have preferred if it had more of a cooling action like The Body Shop Peppermint Foot Scrub but nevertheless it is still a great foot scrub. The scrubbing action is neither too mild nor too rough, making it perfect for using once or twice a week for the maintenance of your feet. However, if you have severely tanned feet then you may need to use this more often and in conjunction with a brightening foot cream for quicker results. Overall, I will recommend this scrub to everyone because taking care of the feet is something that we all should spare some time for.

Estrella Moroccan Argan Oil Calm n Tame Hair Spa Kit | Review

I recently returned from a holiday with hair that resembled the texture of a bird’s nest, thanks to the salty sea breeze and the chlorinated swimming pool water. Luckily, I had in my haircare stash the Estrella Moroccan Argan Oil Calm n Tame Hair Spa Kit which the brand had sent me a few days back to try. This wonderful hair spa kit contains a shampoo, a hair mask, and a serum, which are supposed to reduce frizziness and tame unmanageable hair. So here is a detailed overview of all the three products.

Step 1 – Shampoo: The first step of this 3 step regimen is shampoo. The argan oil shampoo is a little thick but applies quite easily on the scalp and hair. It lathers fairly well and emanates a sweet aroma that reminded me of a spa treatment in a salon. This makes sense because like I mentioned in a previous post, Estrella has been a leading name in the salon space for a long time, so they are bringing professional expertise to their consumer range as well. Overall, the shampoo cleaned my hair and scalp pretty thoroughly. Also, I was a little afraid that since it is an argan oil shampoo, it may leave my roots looking greasy, which most oil-based shampoos tend to do to my hair but amazingly, this shampoo did not cause any greasiness at the roots and in fact, my hair looked fluffier and more voluminous without being frizzy.

Step 2- Mask:  The second step of this hair spa kit is the argan oil hair mask. This hair mask is pretty thick and you can mix in a little bit of water to make it more easily spreadable. Personally, I did not face any difficulty in spreading this product from my mid-lengths to the ends of my hair. Remember, this mask needs to be applied on towel dried hair and can be left on for around 20 minutes. Post rinsing, the sweet fragrance on my hair had intensified even more and my previously unruly and rough hair felt smooth and sleek.

Step 3- Serum: The final step of this spa treatment is a serum which I used on my towel dried hair prior to blow drying. Normally, I am very skeptical about using hair serums because my hair tends to get oily within a day of washing anyway, but I wanted to test out the full routine so I went ahead with a coin-sized amount of the serum on the mid-lengths and ends of my hair. This serum did not leave an oily film on my hair but made detangling much easier than usual and my hair looked soft and shiny once fully dried.

Final Verdict: It has been three days since I used this kit and my hair is less greasy than it has ever been without 3 days of washing. Also, my ends that tend to get rough and tangled very easily are smooth and manageable. Even the soothing aroma of the product is still lingering on my hair. Basically, this hair spa kit has given me similar results to the argan oil hair spa I opt for at my salon. However, while the salon session costs me around 1200 bucks, this super useful kit is available on Amazon at INR 159 only! In fact, this kit will provide you at least two uses, with around 5 uses of the hair serum. On my almost waist-length hair, I needed only half a packet of the shampoo and the mask, which makes this kit even more affordable. I will definitely be buying a couple more and saving them for hair emergencies and I strongly feel that you should too!

Nivea Total Face Cleanup | Review

The jars and bottles and vials of skincare do look pretty on the bathroom shelf but when I am travelling, I want something that is spillproof, unbreakable, and preferably multi-tasking. The Nivea Total Face Cleanup is the perfect product for a low maintenance traveller like me. Also, this product holds a special place in my heart because it was one of the first great skincare products I ever used. While growing up, Nivea products were considered luxury because they were a little expensive than your regular Ponds or Vaseline. So this is a product that I have been using since a really long time and I’m probably one of the most qualified persons to review it 😛

This product is a face wash, scrub, and pack combined in one. It has a similar consistency to a semi-thick clay mask and has tiny gritty particles embedded in it. It is a really effective scrub that does help with the removal of white heads, while being gentle enough for sensitive skin, and the cleansing action is decent too. I also love using it as a mask because it dries down in less than 5 minutes and sucks out all the grease from the face if you keep it on for around 10 minutes.

As you can see, the first three ingredients of this product are water, Kaolin Clay, and Glycerin. The clay helps in absorbing all the grime from the face while the glycerin ensures that the skin does not become too dry. However, it does contain parabens as well, which may turn off a few people. Personally, I don’t mind using something with parabens once in a while, especially because I almost always use organic skincare and use this product primarily when I am travelling (which is not as often as I would like). Also, the tube packaging makes it ideal for throwing into my purse or luggage to make sure that I don’t neglect my skincare completely while on holiday.

Priced at INR 120 for a 50ml tube, this is a fairly affordable product and is multi-tasking too. I love its pleasant fragrance, effective scrubbing action, and efficacy as a face mask. While the product claims to remove spots as well, I haven’t seen much improvement in that department but other than that, I am completely satisfied with the Nivea Total Face Cleanup. Do you have any great recommendations from the brand for me to try out? Let me know in the comments below!
